The Togolese Republic is located in the western part of the African continent. It lies between 6 deg and 11 deg N latitudes and 0 deg and 2 deg e longitudes. It is spread over an area of 57,000 sq kms. The country shares its borders with Ghana, Burkina Faso and Benin. Lome is the capital of Togo. The population of the land is approximately 6.7 million. French is the official language here. Agriculture forms the backbone of its economy. The CFA Franc is the official currency. The majority of the people have indigenous beliefs and approximately 29% are Christians and 20% being Muslims. Togo is a member of several international organizations like the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the La Francophonie. A Republic, the country is divided into 5 different regions which are further sub-divided into 30 perfectures and a commune.
