The Central African Republic or CAR (as it is often referred to) is a country located in Central Africa. It is located between 2 deg and 11 deg N latitudes and 14 deg and 28 deg E longitudes. CAR is spread over an area of 623,000 sq kms. It shares its borders with Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Sudan and Democratic Republic of the Congo. Bangui is the capital of CAR. French and Sango are the official languages here. The country is divided into 14 perfectures for all administrative purposes, which is further divided into 71 sub-perfectures. It enjoys a predominantly tropical kind of climate. The population of the land is approximately 4.4 million with the largest ethinic group being that of the Baya which comprises approximately one-third of the population. Christianity is the predominant religion of the Central African Republic with approximately 80% of the population being Christians.
