The Republic of Cameroon is located in the western and central part of the continent of Africa. It shares its borders with Chad, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and also the Republic of Congo. Cameroon is a republic covering 475,442 sq kms. It is located between 1 deg and 13 deg N latitudes and 8 deg and 17 deg E longitudes. The population of the country is approximately 19,522,000. The country has so much diversity in terms of culture and relief that it is known as “Africa in miniature”. With a huge number of beaches, mountains and forests making up the pieces of this grand jigsaw puzzle, the land is a kaleidoscope displaying immense variety. Yaounde is the capital of Cameroon with Daouala being the largest city in the country. English and French are the official languages here.The official currency is Central African CFA Franc. The country is headed by the President who is the supreme commander of the armed forces and also appoints the Prime Minister and Government officials. Cameroon offers religious freedom to its people. Christians and Muslims form a major section of the society.
