It is known for its rich heritage and is home to civilizations like the Maya. Tegucigalpa is the capital of the country. It is a constitutional republic. Spanish is the official language. Lempira is the official currency. It is divided into 18 different departments for all administrative purposes. Christianity is the predominant religion with the majority of the population being Roman Catholics.
