Sports are considered to be the most popular recreational activities in Germany for both women and men. In 2012, almost 40% of the members of sports clubs were women. There are more than 91000 sports club in Germany and almost all of them are represented by the Olympic group of Germany. The German football group with a total of 26,000 clubs and 178,000 teams is the largest individual body. Sport is financed by the state funding and contributions, voluntary service, private sponsors and membership fees. Cycling is one of the most favoured recreation in Germany as most of the cities of Germany boast super- smooth cycling trails. Hiking and expeditions are opted during holiday periods. Hikers are well- cater for with the marked trails in the Black Forest, the Harz Mountains and the Bavarian Alps. The Black Forest is a vertically challenged mountain which is well- known for skiing and is a crowd-puller for bushwalkers during the warmer months. Here the rivers and lakes are great for boating, with cruises operating around Berlin; the huge lakes in southern Germany and the Baltic Sea are wonderful destinations. Sailing and windsurfing are some of the admired vacation pursuits in Achen, especially on Lake Constance in the south.
