Society & Culture Directory

German society has been truly identified as a rational, secular and with high values of self–expression. The country has an advanced and modern society moulded by provincial identities and plurality of lifestyles. Germany promotes disability rights and has established a high level of gender equality. Germany has also changed its attitude towards the immigrants since the last decade of the 20th century. A majority of German society and the government are equally acknowledging that immigrants from different ethno cultural backgrounds are part of the German society and they have also initiated controlled immigration based on qualification standards. In 2010 Germany has been coined the world’s second most valued nation among top 50 countries. The advent of German culture is more ancient than the rise of the country itself which has spanned the entire German – speaking world. The culture of Germany has been carved out by major intellectual and popular currents in Europe, both religious and secular right from its roots. The federated states hold the charge of cultural institutions as such; there are hundreds of symphonic orchestras where 3.6 million listeners visit per year. There are 240 subsidized theatres where 20 million visitors come annually, thousands of museums, and more than 25,000 libraries spread in Germany where over 91 million Germans visits every year.
