Addictions in medical terminology refer to a disorder that arises out of continued use of a substance and the inability to get off it. Addiction may to any substance like a drug or a medicine. The patient shows behavioral disorder and also may have medical complications as a result of the addiction. Addictions need to be treated in the right manner or else negligence may even prove to be fatal. The person suffering from an addiction may show behavioral traits that are very unlike his or her usual behavior. There may be symptoms like a craving for the drug which makes the patient find ways like stealing to make money to purchase it. Addictions can really play havoc with a person’s psychology and can result in extreme behavior, in many cases it may even lead to anti-social behavior. The person may be physically or psychologically dependent on the substance. There are several specialized rehabilitation centers that provide treatment for addictions and help a patient to get over the phase and return to normal life.
